Consulting and Lived Experiences
Nepal - Kathamandu
Regional Energy Efficiency Consultant
I served as an expert for GIZ (German Development Co-operation) through the Nepal Energy Efficiency Programme (NEEP). I was involved in driving policy formulation and operational strategies to achieve sustainable economic growth and enhance energy efficiency across Nepal.
In my role, I supported the operationalization of the Nepal Energy Information System (NEIS), focusing on strengthening the electricity sector's data infrastructure. I worked closely with the Energy Efficiency Cell at the Ministry of Energy, Nepal, providing technical assistance and capacity building to partners and stakeholders, ensuring that energy efficiency initiatives were effectively implemented.
My responsibilities included supporting the implementation of activities outlined in the Electricity Crisis Mitigation and Hydropower Development Decade Action Plan, conducting energy audits, and promoting energy efficiency campaigns. I supported the conceptualization of GIZ's third phase of support to NEEP, emphasizing utility strengthening and the reduction of system losses.
Committed to institutionalizing energy efficiency, I developed publications, created awareness campaigns, and formulated communication strategies to promote co-generation and demand-side management in Nepal.
One of my sole-authored work resulted in a report for the National Electrical Utility titled "Demand Side Management and End-Use Energy Efficiency in Nepal."
Nepal - Rasuwa, Dhanding, Nuwakot
Post Disaster Needs Assesment Consultant
On April 25, 2015, I, along with millions of other people, experienced one of the most harrowing moments of our lives: the devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Nepal. The earthquake changed Nepal forever, but it also brought us closer together, I witnessed incredible acts of kindness and solidarity, which gave me hope amid the devastation.
Post the earthquake, I was part of the Post Disaster Needs Assessment Surve team, where we tried to ascertain the needs of the three most earthquake-affected districts in the country: Rasuwa, Dhading, and Nuwakot. One of my projects was collaborating with the Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) to identify the community energy needs through a survey of affected villages in the districts. We carried with us models of Improved Cook Stoves (ICS) to present during focus group discussions with village representatives, guiding them in choosing appropriate SAFE packages. We then identified local agents for installation and follow-up services, assisted in technical specifications for procurement, and contributed to GIZ’s result-based monitoring system.
Thereafter, we prepared a comprehensive report featuring photos that document inclusive needs assessments and community discussions regarding solutions. This report will include a list of contacts for potential focal persons capable of providing medium- to long-term services for Improved Cook Stoves (ICS) and Solar Home Systems (SHS), as well as local retailers for modular solar home systems equipment and spare parts.
